Snowmaking Begins in Steamboat

The warm fall in Steamboat came to a quick end on Monday as the snow began to fall and the temperatures began their drop for the what is thought to be the rest of the winter.  With the temperatures looking to remain cool during the day and cold at night, the resort began snowmaking on the mountain in anticipation for opening day - less than 2 weeks away. 'Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. started making snow Tuesday evening, according to a news release from the resort. A record 93 guns were being used, the release stated.'

The Steamboat Pilot Reported that 'Steamboat’s snowmaking system was expanded and upgraded this summer resulting in an increase in water flow, pressure, production and power, according to the release. In addition, 40 high-efficiency, low-energy tower guns, which use 30 percent less energy than conventional guns while producing the same amount of snow, were purchased and now are located across the mountain.'

We are all counting down the days until November 24th and hope to see you out on the slopes soon!
