Cultural Kickoff to Summer in Steamboat

This weekend we go right from red, white and blue straight into all of the colors of Steamboat.  A cobalt sky, bright yellow shining sun and, hopefully, a rainbow or two.  So many of our beloved guests know our cowboy history, and, so many more full and part time locals are now taking advantage of our ever growing artistic side. The kick off to the summertime arts celebration is the annual Art in the Park put on by the Steamboat Springs Arts Council.  Fine artists and craftspeople dot the grass of West Lincoln Park showing off their wares and entertaining the local shoppers.  Free music performances, delish dishes and, of course, the amazing Kids' creative corner complete with face painting, hot air balloon making, sand sorting and the oh so adorable potato race car races.

And speaking of the cultural kick off to summer, there's also the grand opening of the PicNik Theatre - Shakespeare's Twelfth Night premiering on Friday, July 6 at 6pm at the Steamboat Botanical Gardens.  Bring a picnic, a blanket and the whole family to enjoy a free performance from the talented troupe from the New Zealand National Drama School.  They'll be performing throughout the summer both the Twelfth Night and Tartuffe (see schedule above or visit their website below) and also teaching our local Steamboat aspiring actors through two weeks of theatre workshops for kids.

As for picnic suggestions, we won't let you go hungry in Steamboat.  We love the 5th Street Deli downtown and The Paramount on the mountain as perfect places to pack your picnic.  And there are tons of fabulous restaurants for pre and post music performances, Harwigs loves patrons of the arts, show them your ticket and see if they have any surprises in store for you that evening.  The first Friday art stroll is also this Friday, July 6th where local galleries open their doors, show off their artists and drink a toast or two to the visual arts that complement our spectacular Steamboat canvas.  The artwalk is from 5-7pm the first Friday of each month.  We highly recommend the Depot's Montecarlo artist collective show - a mixed media curation created by up and coming artists specifically for the depot.

Whether you choose to just soak up the scenery that mother nature has provided us or add to your senses with our celebration of the arts all weekend long, we wish you an amazing time this weekend in Steamboat.
