One of the more famous sentiments shared by many in the Yampa Valley is that they ‘Came (to Steamboat) for Winter, but stayed for the Summer.’ And while Spring and Fall usually follow the traditional easing from one season into another - sometimes one of the opposite season’s just isn’t ready to give up quite yet.  We have been blessed with a relatively warm spring thus far, allowing for early mountain biking on Emerald and the roads surrounding town.

Last week - winter reminded us that despite the date on the calendar, she wasn’t quite ready to give into the warmth of summer.  We eagerly await the upcoming summer, but always cherish the opportunity to enjoy one last snowfall.

Being as passionate about Steamboat as we are - we love everything about this great town!  We have found that even some of the more general background information does a great job at painting a picture of some of the aspects of the small, amazing town we live in.  Stay tuned for more anecdotes on daily life here, but wanted to post some of the background info about Steamboat Springs!

Name - There is no Steamboat in Steamboat Springs. The town got it’s name from the “chug chug” sound that the hot springs made.

NickName - “Ski Town, U.S.A.”, “The Boat.” Famous for Champagne Powder®, Tree Skiing and home to more Olympians than any other town in the U.S.

Elevation - Base 6,900 ft. Summit of Mt. Werner is 10,568 ft. Lower than other mtn. towns = more

Continuing to highlight different developments in Steamboat Springs each week, this week we focus on Fish Creek Falls area.  Gaining elevation as you leave downtown, the Fish Creek area climbs just above Steamboat. This slight increase in elevation still allows you to be close to the downtown area of Steamboat, but high up to have beautiful views of the surrounding areas.  A perfect balance for those looking to live close to downtown, but don’t want to sacrifice the views of the Yampa Valley!

As many of you know Steamboat Springs recently adopted the Bike Town USA name - and with good reason. The two wheeled adventures in this area of Northwest Colorado are endless. Between the epic single track trails of Emerald Mountain to the amazing Road rides out Twenty-Mile road, you could spend the summer and never hit the same trail.
