Attractions in North Routt

Steamboat Springs Mountain Range

Hahns Peak

Hahns Peak is a staple of North Routt, offering a great early morning hike for anyone interested. The area around the mountain actually served as Routt County’s seat from 1878 to 1912. Named after the miner Joseph Henn who found gold on the mountain, Hahns Peak is known for its views and the community that sprung up close to the mountain.

This now includes Steamboat Lake, the Hahns Peak Roadhouse, and the town of Clark. Also at the top of Hahns Peak is the Hahns Peak Fire Lookout Tower, built in 1912 with the help of packhorses bringing pieces up the mountain.

You can still visit this structure today at the top of the mountain, but try to hike up it early as afternoon storms can bring dangerous lightning if you're above the treeline.

Hahns Peak Museum

This engaging living museum is located in the former mining town of Hahns Peak. The museum grounds include several fully-restored historic buildings. Look into the schoolhouse to learn about this pillar of village life. Enter the oldest historic building on the site, the Wither Cabin. Learn more about early pioneer life through museum artifacts and displays.

The museum is open throughout the summer season each year.

Steamboat Lake

Steamboat Lake is home to fishing, boating, camping, paddleboarding, and swimming. Located between several famous mountains, including Hahns Peak, Steamboat Lake also offers idyllic views.

Pearl Lake

True to its name, Pearl Lake is a hidden gem in North Routt’s mountains. There you can canoe, fly fish, camp, and hike, all while taking in the gorgeous views Pearl Lake has to offer.

The Clark Store

The Clark Store is a general store, eatery, coffee house, and community hub. The store also has what is widely regarded as the best ice cream in Routt County. In the Clark Store, you will find not only the amenities you need but an opportunity to meet with neighbors, friends, and the rest of the North Routt community.
