Why I Love Steamboat

With our Monthly Newsletters we occosionally will ask for your thoughts on what makes Steamboat so special to you.  Our Jan 2011 Newsletter drew this response from Mary Jo Roth who used to live in Steamboat.  If you are interested in gaining more information or subscribing to our newsletter about Living in Steamboat Springs, click here.

I lived in Steamboat for thirty years and whatever possessed me to move away ten years ago I have no idea!  The curse of the Ute Indians is alive and for real, I have returned every year since for one week in the winter to ski some fresh powder, and one week in the summer to play golf in the mountains.

I love Steamboat because there is nothing like the feel of fresh  powder in your face when you are blowing down through your special stash in the trees of Priest Creek.  I love Steamboat  when you ride the chair up and the sun is shinning so brightly every little snowflake sparkles and then you turn down and pause for a moment to enjoy the view of the Yampa Valley. I love the excitement of the first snowfall and opening day on the mountain. I love summers because the golf courses are some of the best in the country and you can't beat the weather.  I love the fall because of the beauty of the aspens changing and the little chill in the air that reminds us winter is approaching.

Mostly though I love Steamboat because  of the people who have lived there for as long and longer than I did. The friendships I've  made in Steamboat were built on some pretty great memories of some pretty great times and awesome adventures. Steamboat is unique in it's own very special way because of the people.

There are just too many reason why I love Steamboat, and if I could go back I would in a heartbeat!"
