Steamboat Springs Schools

      Nestled in the northwest corner of Colorado and home to approximately 12,000 permanent residents, the Steamboat Springs School system more than exceeds expectations for a town of our size.  Understanding that a strong educational system is important in attaining the full development of our children, we wanted to outline the available options for education in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

     Beginning with Elementary Schools, children are separated into two separate school districts.  Helping maintain small class sizes and promote interactivity with teachers, this allows for strong foundations of education to be fostered at a young age.  Based on the location of your home you will either be part of the Strawberry Park or Soda Mountain school districts.

     In addition to the public school options, Steamboat is also home to a newly opened Montessori school.  The goals of the Montessori education mix well with Steamboat's lifestyle; the school promotes to ‘not only to make the child understand, and still less to force him to memorize, but so to touch his imagination as to enthuse him to his intermost core.'  An education system that goes from 3 yrs old through 6th grade, involvement in the Montessori education can begin at an early age and last through a child's early teens.
    
     As your children begin to grow, the Steamboat Springs Middle School will soon become their home for a few short years.  Well touted around Colorado for their excellence with their students, the Middle School was recently acknowledged by the Colorado Department of Education as one of twenty middle schools in the entire state of Colorado as a High Achieving School.

     And with three different high schools, students and their parents are afforded the opportunity to pick the school that best matches the desires and learning styles of the student.

     Steamboat Springs High School - Home to approximately 600 students, Steamboat's public high school is dedicated to academic achievement and community involvement.  The school's goal with each student is to ‘Inspire; Share a passion for exploring meaningful ideas; Promote intellectual agility and life long learning; Maximize individual talents; Foster confidence; Respect diversity in all forms; Provide a safe and trusting environment; and Develop emotional intelligence, social engagement and community involvement.'


     Lowell Whiteman - A co-ed boarding school, Lowell Whiteman is well known for their intense college-preparatory classes and helping prepare students for education at a higher level.  Integrating into their academic curriculum with a heavy emphasis on winter sports and an annual foreign travel trip, Whitman students find success in the classroom while enjoying many activities outside of it.  With notable graduates such as Johnny Spillane and Pep Fujas, future Olympic athletes and X-Games competitors grace the halls and dorms on a regular basis.

     With a mission statement such as the following, it is easy to see how this school has been instrumental in changing the lives of its students.

     And still another option is Steamboat Christian Heritage.  Looking to ‘serve as an extension of the Christian home, encouraging Godly character in biblical, academically challenging environment.'  Differing from Lowell Whiteman, Christian Heritage offers an academic environment that ranges from K-12.  With over 100 students in this school, Christian Heritage is a great option for students looking to pursue education while learning and demonstrating Christian values.
