  Colorado's summers may be short, but for a few weeks, starting in mid-July and running until the end of August, we are treated to a wildflower extravaganza. As the last remaining snow drifts melt and the sun reaches it's pinnacle, the high country surrounding Steamboat Springs Colorado is transformed into a rainbow of colors. This site is to hard to explain and must be seen for yourself. Fields of green suddenly burst alive with splashes of reds, yellows and purples. Behind every rock, growing out of old stumps and sprouting up from seemly barren ground there seems to be a flower growing.   In less than 24 hours our skies over Steamboat Springs Colorado will be filled with the colorful and creative hot air balloons. The 35th Annual Hot Air Balloon Rodeo will once again be held at the Bald Eagle Lake, located just outside the city limits. One of our favorite events for the summer, this spectator friendly event can be view from just about anywhere around Steamboat Springs. Simply set your alarm for 6am, grab a chair and some coffee and look to the heavens or better yet, head down to the event and watch launch close up. You can get up close and personal with the pilots and who knows, you might even catch a ride.

 For over 100 years Steamboat Springs Colorado has been celebrating the Fourth of July in true Western form. From our 112th annual Cowboy Roundup Days to the Parade down Lincoln Avenue, we celebrate things a little differently. Where else can you have a Pancake Breakfast, run a 1/2 Marathon, Nordic skate down the center of Main Street and launch yourself off the 50 meter ski jump, all by noon! This weekend is one our favorite weekends of the year. The trails are in perfect condition to ride or hike and the river is in prime fishing condition. Feeling lazy, float the afternoon away and spend the heat of the day in the "C hole" swimming and relaxing. There are plenty of fun activities to do this weekend and we can't wait to celebrate our Independence
